Self-Reflection

This would be my 76th blog post I guess. So much had occurred during the start of the new semester and I haven’t been updating my blog since then. Guess it would be the chance to speak out about what I’ve learnt. We were given puzzles that made us think out of the box, and in some cases, literally. It was just to see how creative our minds could be. We were then made familiar with SCAMPER over the next few classes. SCAMPER helped us in coming up with new ideas. Even in normal classroom environment where we were supposed to come out with new some ideas, I realize that I’m coming up with ideas by using SCAMPER. Subconsciously, I’m applying the skills that I’ve learnt and I must say that it’s really helping me a lot.

More classes and more skills, kind of like direct proportion or so I felt. If I’m not wrong, next up was forced association. Forced association is like, how would I say it, more of trying to think of making the seemingly impossible possible. For example, forcing a cactus with a toy bear will, in my opinion, form a bear having a cactus-like spear. I have to admit that Mrs. Goh’s teaching methods are fun and there were often bouts of laughter in the class. Inventive thinking taught us to combine more than two or more ideas together. Our group had over 50 ideas in the end. I find it useful for we can come up with more possibilities from what we see in our daily lives. The art of coming up with new ideas instead of sticking to the old ones and modifying it might be a fresh look to future projects and might help us harness more marks.

Narrowing it down to 5 and further narrow it down to 1 final idea using decision making, another useful skill. The criteria are the factors helping us to narrow our scope down to the final product, Transcanner. Learning how to choose the correct factors for important decision making was one of the many rewards of this module. With the 6 different coloured hats, I find it easier to expand my ideas and find new ideas. Not only that, with the hats, we are able to find faults with our product and correct and improve it.

To sum it all up, I personally feel that this module has lots in store for me. Some examples are being to learn how to put your own creativity to good use and also to apply some of the knowledge learnt in your own course.
